Your Golf Inspiration

So I was just reading some headlines after watching some golf and got to thinking of the golfer who inspired me the most. When I was in junior high, I started to really like golfing. The golfer who inspired me the most was Tiger Woods. He was phenomenal! Never had I seen a golfer with his skills and abilities. I've always liked him and followed him ever since.

It's sad to me that people are knocking him so hard just because he's had a rough year (his rank at the end of 2014 was 32). Statistically, he's the best golfer who's ever played. (I'd say the only other up with him in the Master's period is Jack Nicklaus) He brought golf to life for way more people than any other golfer. And let's be honest, even though his rank is 286 right now, he's still way better than you or I!

So why are there so many headlines about him? There are other golfers out there right? The reason that he gets so much press is because he achieved so many amazing things in his career. Not only that, but he did it at a very young age. People want to see him get back to where he was doing incredible things. 

Anyway, this was really just about seeing which golfer(s) inspired you. I'd love to see who they are. Just leave a comment at the bottom of the post.

How to Hit Out of the Rough

If you're like the majority of golfers out there, you probably play your fair share in the rough. Heck, even the pros spend more time than they'd like to in the rough, with many of them only hitting the fairway off the tee 70% - 80% of the time!

So here are some great tips to teach you how to get out of the rough in any situation that you might find your ball in.

Congratulations to Jason Day!

This is coming a few days late, but I still wanted to congratulate Jason Day on an amazing performance at the PGA Championship this past weekend! He's been struggling for so long to win a major and has been so close several times. This was his time to do it. Congratulations!

How to Aim Correctly and Hit a Straight Shot

Most people live and die by the rule of aiming at the target with their feet. The biggest problem with this though, is that the club head tends to be off of the target line when you do this. In the video by Me and My Golf below, they show you the proper way to setup and hit the ball.

The first step is to get behind your ball and find the line. Once you've done that, you need to choose a spot on that line to aim the club head at. Usually this can be anywhere from 1 to 2 feet away from the ball. You then stay focused on that spot and align your club head at the spot you chose. You can then set your feet and hit the shot you envisioned.

Round 1 of Quicken Loans

Wow! That's all I've got to say about round one of the Quicken Loans Tournament yesterday. It was an amazing display of so many great shots.

Two hole in ones! Ishikawa and Fowler both shot a hole in one in round one of the tournament. How rare is it to even get a hole in one, and then to have to golfers do it on the same day at the same tournament? It's remarkable!

Then you've got tons of chip-ins and a slam dunk from 89 yards out. There were some amazing putts, especially the 50+ foot putt by Ernie Els and the 35 foot putt by Tiger Woods.

Goosen and Ishikawa ended the day at -8 par and we'll see how they keep up tomorrow. All I can say is that I can't wait for round two!

How to Chip Over the Sand

If you're like most people, you find sand traps daunting. It doesn't matter if you're in them or trying to get right over them, it's not the position you want to be in.

So how can you hit it right over the sand trap and onto the green if you find yourself short with a bunker in front of you? Rickie Fowler and Butch Harmon have some great tips to get you over the bunker.

The real trick though is going to be practice!

Spieth Could Be the Best Putter Ever

With the Open Championship over, it's time to look up some more obscure facts about Jordan Spieth. He seems to still be at the top of everyone's mind even though he wasn't able to add the third win of his potential grand slam.

The fact is that despite his loss at St. Andrews, he is an amazing golfer. His putting percentage is incredibly high! Here's a snippet of an article on GolfChannel.com by Ryan Lavner:

“I don’t believe we’ve seen statistics on putting like we’ve seen from Jordan,” Poulter said. “If you look at the percentage of putts he holes from 25 feet, it’s remarkable. That’s generally the distance you hit it to when you are playing well. It’s an amazing percentage of putts that he holes and we all want that sort of putting stroke.”
